Why we love it
Hawthorn is woven into the British landscape. In late spring, Crataegus monogyna is smothered in creamy white blossom, followed in autumn by clusters of deep red haws.
Multi-stem specimens develop a wonderfully gnarled, sculptural form, giving instant age and character to a new garden.
How to use it
Perfect for wildlife gardens, country gardens and exposed or coastal sites. Use it as a feature tree in a meadow, at the edge of a lawn, or among native hedging.
Planting and aftercare
Plant between autumn and spring and water through its first summer. It needs little care; prune in winter to remove crossing stems and keep the shape open.
