Together at Christmas, Westminster Abbey
A winter woodland welcome for The Princess of Wales’s carol service, December 2025
For The Princess of Wales’s annual Together at Christmas carol service, Form designed and planted a natural winter woodland outside Westminster Abbey, welcoming more than 1,600 guests as they arrived on 5 December 2025.
Real trees, berried shrubs, winter grasses and hips lined the main entrance and the walkway along the side of the Abbey, lit by candlelight to complement one of the world’s most iconic façades.
The 2025 service celebrated love, compassion and connection, honouring people across the UK who bring their communities together. It was broadcast on ITV1 and ITVX on Christmas Eve as Royal Carols: Together at Christmas.

The project
Guests arriving for the Together at Christmas carol service were greeted by an authentic winter woodland. Form dressed the Abbey’s main entrance and the walkway down its side with real trees, creating a winter wonderland that felt as though it had always grown there.
Kensington Palace announced that the planting would create a natural, festive environment outside the Abbey, in keeping with The Princess of Wales’s love of nature, using British woodland trees from Form Plants.
What Form did
Form designed the scheme, supplied every plant and installed it on site. The project was led by William Nathan, with James and Ruth Walker on the installation and Rhianne Williams creating the florals.
Leaf litter and pine needles were laid beneath the planting for an even more natural finish, and the whole scheme was lit by candlelight, giving a soft glow against the Abbey’s stonework as guests arrived in the evening.

The planting
Crab apples (Malus) and sumach (Rhus) gave height and structure, underplanted with berried shrubs and Christmas trees. Layers of rose hips and viburnum berries brought warmth and colour, while ornamental grasses in their winter state added movement and texture against the stone. Dried hydrangea heads, holly and evergreen ferns completed the scene, finished with leaf litter, pine needles and candlelight.
