The Place2Be Securing Tomorrow Garden
Designed by Jamie Butterworth, RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2022
Form founder Jamie Butterworth’s first RHS Chelsea Flower Show garden, awarded a Gold medal: a safe, beautiful space created for Place2Be, the children’s mental health charity.
Created for Place2Be with sustainable investment manager Sarasin & Partners, the garden was designed to encourage conversation, with a sunken seating area and bespoke carved oak seats at its heart. Pupils from Viking Primary School in Northolt helped shape the design.
Form Plants grew and supplied the planting, and after the show the garden was relocated to Viking Primary School, where it opened as a wellbeing garden for pupils in November 2022.

The project
The Place2Be Securing Tomorrow Garden was created for Place2Be, the children’s mental health charity, with sustainable investment manager Sarasin & Partners. Shown in the Sanctuary Gardens category at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in May 2022, it won a Gold medal. It was Jamie Butterworth’s first Chelsea garden, and pupils from Viking Primary School in Northolt helped shape the design.
Designed to encourage conversation, particularly among children affected by the pandemic, the garden offered a calm, safe sanctuary from busy city life. At its heart was a sunken seating area with large, bespoke carved oak seats: a place to sit, slow down and talk.
After the show, the garden moved to Viking Primary School, where it opened in November 2022 as a wellbeing garden for pupils.
The planting
A dappled canopy of trees, including Cornus, Zelkova, Parrotia and Carpinus, enclosed the back and sides of the garden above a restrained understorey of woodland shrubs and perennials. Towards the front, topiary, perennials and grasses added texture and gently screened the seating, with irises, salvias, alliums and poppies bringing soft colour.
What Form did
Jamie Butterworth designed the garden, and Form Plants grew and supplied the planting.
