This compact, upright, easily-grown Swiss selection of Prunus laurocerasus makes a really good choice for small gardens, where it is an ideal plant for use as screening or hedging, tolerating regular pruning well. But it can also be trained into a small tree. It needs less trimming than regular cherry laurel, yet forms a narrow hedge due to its upright habit. An evergreen shrub with dense, narrow growth and lovely glossy rich-green leaves, Prunus laurocerasus GENOLIA (‘Mariblon’) has columnar growth with smaller leaves that are distinctively slender and lance-shaped. In spring, erect spikes of scented white flowers attractive to pollinators appear, followed by black fruits. This cherry laurel may be damaged by severe frost in cold areas.
