Topiary – Beehives

TOPIARY BEEHIVES

Topiary beehives are similar in shape to topiary domes. They still have a rounded top but are, however, far taller than they are wide. They are relatively simple shapes with an organic form and are easily maintained, which also means that this style of topiary can be applied to a range of shrubs and trees. Deciduous options include hornbeam, which provides an interesting winter tracery of branches while retaining a few russet-coloured leaves. Evergreen holly olive and yew bring year-round solidity and structure, with the bonus of soft bright-green spring shoots contrasting with older, darker foliage.

Use these plants in traditional or contemporary gardens alike; use them singly as focal points or plant several in an avenue or group. Raised beehives are much the same shape but the topiary branchwork is raised on a single stem, giving it a more tree-like form, allowing underplanting or a simple emphasis of the interesting shape. More unusual than balls or domes, these are definitely worth adding to the list when you're looking for topiary plants for sale.
