This notably bushy selection of cherry laurel is an ideal plant for use as screening or hedging, especially in larger gardens, although it tolerates regular pruning well and so can be used to form a tidy, reasonably dense and compact specimen. It can also be left to grow into a small tree in areas where quick-growing evergreen cover is needed. An evergreen shrub with a naturally rounded, wide-spreading habit, when regularly trimmed it produces far denser growth. Plants bear superbly lush, glossy, broadly oblong-shaped rich-green leaves that are half as wide as they are long, to around 8cm wide and 15cm long. In spring, erect spikes of scented white flowers attractive to pollinators appear, followed by black fruits. Prunus laurocerasus ‘Rotundifolia’ holds an Award of Garden Merit (AGM) from the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) which is given only to the best garden plants.
